Why Being “Busy” Isn’t Always Moving Forward

Lately, I’ve been looking at the sky more than usual.

My daughter has started a little routine every evening. She runs outside and asks in her tiny voice, “Mommy, where’s the moon?” Then she squints into the fading light, searching for the first tiny spark of what she calls the sparkling stars.

She says it with pure wonder, like the sky is brand new every single night.

For her, it probably is.

But when I look up at the stars, it feels different. It feels like I’m staring into the future. Like those tiny lights in the sky are quietly holding secrets about where my life is heading. Sometimes it almost feels like they’re whispering, “Just keep going. Something beautiful is coming.”

And lately, I’ve realized something important.

I’ve been waiting.

Not in a lazy way. I’ve never been afraid of hard work. In fact, I’ve always been the type of person who pours energy into everything I do. Day after day, project after project, always moving.

But even the most driven people eventually reach a strange point in the journey.

A place where you feel like you’re working hard… but you’re not sure if you’re actually moving forward.

It’s like running a marathon with no mile markers. You keep going, but you don’t know how far you’ve come or how far you still need to go.

That’s when I started thinking about something simple.

Life sometimes feels like a long road trip.

And every once in a while, you pull into a gas station.

At first, it makes perfect sense. You stop to refuel. Maybe stretch your legs. Maybe drink a cup of mediocre coffee while the engine cools down.

Rest is necessary.

But here’s the tricky part.

If you stay at that gas station too long, it starts to feel comfortable.

What began as a short break slowly becomes routine.

And without realizing it, you’re no longer resting.

You’re stalling.

There’s a strange space between feeling satisfied and feeling restless. You’re comfortable enough not to make big changes, but something inside you knows there’s more waiting ahead.

That quiet tension can slowly drain your energy. From the outside, everything looks peaceful. But inside, it feels like you’re floating without direction.

That’s when I started asking myself a difficult question:

Am I actually preparing for the next step… or am I hiding from it?

Because sometimes we convince ourselves that we’re “waiting for the right moment.”

But deep down, we’re just afraid to press the gas pedal again.

The truth is, life’s bigger plan isn’t something that simply happens to us.

Yes, maybe there is a path meant for each of us. Maybe there is a kind of destiny written somewhere in the stars.

But that plan still depends on our actions.

Think about it like driving a car.

You might already be on the right highway.

But if you never press the accelerator, the car won’t move.

Sometimes we don’t even realize we’ve shifted into park.

Even worse, the thoughts we repeat to ourselves can quietly shut the engine off completely.

Little phrases like:

“Maybe this is enough.”

“I’m not ready.”

“Who do I think I am to want more?”

Those thoughts slowly drain the fuel from our courage.

But something interesting happens when we start speaking differently to ourselves.

Even if it’s quiet. Even if it’s uncertain.

When we say things like, “Maybe I can do this.”

Or, “I’m scared, but I’m ready.”

It’s like the engine comes back to life.

That spark of possibility starts buzzing again.

What nobody really tells you is that believing in your own potential can be uncomfortable — especially when the life you’ve already built looks successful from the outside.

Sometimes the hardest thing isn’t starting from nothing.

Sometimes the hardest thing is leaving behind a version of yourself that once worked… but no longer fits who you’re becoming.

So here I am.

Still stretching.

Still refueling.

Still looking ahead at the road.

But something has shifted inside me.

Instead of quietly waiting, I’ve started whispering something new to myself.

Let’s go.

The tank is full.

And whatever is waiting beyond the next horizon… I’m finally ready to see it.

And every night, when I look up at those stars, they still seem to sparkle in quiet agreement.

As if they’re cheering softly from a distance.

Keep going.

Your moment is closer than you think.
