Blood From the Womb

poem/rap about misogynistic attitudes about periods and how stigmatized they are in society

Top Story - March 2026

I got my first period at 11-years-old...

I put on a pad just like I was told.

When I told my dad,

He grimaced and said,

"Men don't like hearing about that,

Talk to your mom instead."

/

So, talking about your preferences,

For breastier and slimmer chicks,

Is perfectly natural to discuss with your daughter.

But the second I mention menstruation,

It's a disgusting, sinful condemnation,

Glad to know you're just another chauvinist motherfucker.

/

Ain't it funny how the blood from the womb,

Makes all these men crumble?

(All these men crumble.)

But your body is a delicacy,

Enough to make these men stumble.

(Make these men stumble.)

/

So men can fart, burp, belch, and spit...

They can talk openly about their dicks.

But I mention how PMS is making me sick,

Suddenly, I'm labeled the nasty bitch.

Well, I have some big fucking news for you...

I don't give a fuck if it sickens you, douche.

To mention how my body is sloughing eternally...

Besides, I've passed blood clots thicker than you.

/

Ain't it funny how the blood from the womb,

Makes all these men crumble?

(All these men crumble.)

But your body is a delicacy,

Enough to make these men stumble.

(Make these men stumble.)

/

They used to put us in asylums,

Overdose us with opium.

Denounce us as demons,

Too hysterical to speak at a podium.

They used to jam icepicks through our skulls,

Make us zombies and culled

Any defective woman

Who didn't do what she's told.

They used to rape us with vibrators,

Forced orgasms will stop the vapors.

If not, they'd remove our clits

And make us joyless babymakers.

Some cultures exile PMSing women to huts

Like we're animals, not humans who just bleed every month.

So, you think I give a single fuck,

You're having a fit over a tampon?

You think I'm gonna apologize

Because you think my body is wrong?

My period is normal...

Your beliefs are misogynistic.

Now get the fuck out of my way,

I am a woman and I don't owe you shit.

/

Ain't it funny how the blood from the womb,

Makes all these men crumble?

(All these men crumble.)

But your body is a delicacy,

Enough to make these men stumble.

(Make these men stumble.)

I definitely figured out how to use men's disgust of menstruation to my advantage when I was in high school. I got away with a lot of stuff by telling my male teachers I just started my period. I missed entire class periods without any consequences because they didn't want to hear about it. I thought it was funny then, but looking back I just find it sad. In reality I was having some really horrible health issues, but I never talked about my intense bleeding, debilitating pain, and frequency of my periods with anyone who should have helped. Refreshingly, it was my male OBGYN that made me feel comfortable enough to really talk about all my "embarrassing" issues decades later and finally helped treat them.

He’ll yeah ✊ I’m still surprised by men’s attitudes about this. I thought they’d evolve by now.

As a husband and father of daughters, I am still constantly surprised by how stupid men can be about such a natural thing. Loved that line about passing blood clots thicker than him.

Love this! It's not just men, my mum was super awkward about periods, and I was so embarrassed when I got mine. I ended up being in excruciating pain for years because I was too scared to talk about it. Finally in my 20s I found out I had severe endometriosis and needed surgery. If only I hadn't been made to feel so uncomfortable about the fact that I had a period.

I never thought of it like that. How men salivate over women but get disgusted by periods. It's weird... And a good point. One that does bother me is so many men I've met literally HATE the idea of two men together but two women is fine. I don't hate men... But I hate the mindsets if many I have met. Loved this piece.

I’m not interested in opinions about menstruation from anyone who can’t bleed fir a week without dying. This is fierce. Love it, hate the need for it.
