I am an Unruly Gardener
I am an unruly gardener, likely a lazy gardener, definitely a quirky one and no doubt a combination of all three! No uniform little rows, manicured lawns or perfect flower beds for me! Oh, I start off with good intentions, inspired by many books and seed catalogues, dreaming of all that I will grow in my little space, buying enough seeds for my whole neighbourhood! And I imagine all those perfect beds of herbal medicine along with all the vegies and fruit that I could ever want! Oh it is so perfect! But then, I squirm with discomfort, seeing the work it takes, the relentless hours of weeding, thinning, hoeing and I shiver inside!

Make Your Lawn Work for You
Everyone that owns a home likely has a lawn that requires regular care and maintenance but doesn’t give anything back to those that care for it—whether it is only a few square meters or a few acres. What if instead of caring for a lawn you could take care of your very own food forest that provided fresh food to your family and community? Grass lawns require continual mowing, turn yellow in droughts, and offer no productive yields in return for that time and energy you spent. Food forests, while they do require care and maintenance, also provide fresh produce, sequester more carbon than lawns, improve soil quality over time, foster positive relationships between people and the environment while creating habitat and food for vital pollinator species.

Keeping a Plant Alive
Some people are born with the gift of having a green thumb. Meaning, gardening and horticultural activities come easy for them. I imagine this to be about as true as naturally talented sports players or artists. Not that you can't have a natural knack for something, it's just that everything we do requires repetition to reaching perfection. My mother used to tell me "practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect." If you want to get truly good at something and master your skill you have to put in the time, effort and energy to become better.

Ordering Houseplants Online: Risky or Rewarding?
Houseplants add so much to a home. They have the ability to filter the air, they are aesthetically pleasing and can sit regally on a shelf or hang from the ceiling. They illicit peace and calm, in my humble opinion. There are many varieties, accommodating all lighting and spacial situations. You can find bushy plants, trailing vines or literal miniature trees. The possibilities are vast!
